The most defensible positions in any market aren't where competition is fiercest. They're where competition is absent -- and where the reason for that absence is durable. Not underserved markets waiting to be found. Spaces that resist discovery by the very people best positioned to fill them.
We call this working Via Negativa.
Most firms will never see these spaces — not because they lack talent or resources, but because finding them requires thinking in a direction that most strategic training actively discourages.
